Prior to May 2005 Marjorie identified areas of OPEN SPACE which included the old pylon line area. She is extremely pleased that two applications for development on this site have been turned down because she had the foresight to have it designated open space. During 2004 the residents of Hemingford Gardens were threatened with a possible Rugby Pitch being introduced upon the now designated open space between Hemingford Gardens and Canon Grove.
Stockton Council officers had already agreed the site without consultation with the then Ward Councillors Marjorie Simpson and Brian Jones. The deal was just about in the bag and on its way to the Planning stage with no consultation with residents never mind councillors when Marjorie discovered the deed. With the support of residents she battled for the land to remain a pleasant green space for the use of children to play ball games and residents to continue walking pursuits.
