Working Hard for Yarm
Unwanted Boules Pitch at Snaiths Field
What a way to treat residents after the election. No consulation because they did not require planning permission. See the email below sent to Yarm Town Councillors.
Jason et al,
Unless Unique Landscaping and/or Marshalls have confirmed that they are no longer prepared to proceed with the work, I would suggest that we ask them to start forthwith.
Developments cannot be allowed to be cancelled simply because of the actions of one politically-motivated individual. (A bitter, failed council candidate who resorted to the drawing of offensive charicatures during the election campaign and recently resorted to fly-posting on Snaiths Field I would add).
It is oft said that there is no such thing as bad publicity. I do not see the recent stories in the press should deter the council from proceeding. This is not the only issue on which the said grandmother has appeared in the press of late, and I somehow doubt it will prove to be the last.
I would suggest that the clerk be present when the works commence, and for their duration; should anybody attempt to interfere with or obstruct the workmen then the clerk should immediately ring the police to arrange for their removal from the site, preferably in leg irons.
Kind regards,
Cllr Mark Chatburn
Ward councillor for Yarm and Kirklevington
Snaiths Field Update November, 2010
Arrangements have now been made for a piece of new equipment to replace the exisiting slide. The equipment will still incorporate a slide with the addition of climbing equipment. YIA led a consultatioin of residents and Stockton Borough Council officers produced the necessary quotes and at a meeting in November 2010 the Town Council agreed the amount of £9000 be taken from the budget of £10000.
There is also a proposal for a play area in Leven Park/Levendale area but as yet no consultatiionn has taken place with residents. Until this occurs YIA cannot agree to placement. However, in the hope that this does happen and residents take ownership of the site the town council will then be in a position to have a ring fenced budget for this purpose.
Snaiths Field
The Town Council has money ring fenced for further equipment to be installed in Snaiths Field. It would seem that this area is becoming more popular than in previous years and at present we are consulting residents as to the type of equipment children would like to have access to here. At present £7500 is available. Should the cost of the equipment exceed this amount, we will have to suggest that the extra funding be included in the next council budget of January 2011.
There is a further proposal of a play area in the Levendale/Leven Park area but there seems to be a problem with the exact location. Stockton Council Officers have visited the Town Council asking for help with this proposal. It was decided that Marjorie Simpson would take the lead on this and continue her previous success in other areas. However, before there is a commitment to any area she wishes that full consultation takes place with residents. Recent articles written in Gossip have suggested that the Ward Councillors are close to deciding which area will be the preferred location but as yet no letters have been sent out to residents. The Ward Councillors usually consult through the pages of Gossip and eventually put the site in their preferred location. This is not good enough as we need the cooperation of residents living close by.
