Marjorie Simpson
Working Hard for Yarm
Yarm Town Hall Project
From May 1999 to 2001 Stockton Council Architects were persuaded by Marjorie and Brian Jones to draw up plans for the Town Hall to have accommodation on the ground floor that could be used by all residents and school children for educational or heritage schemes. This was driven towards the Town Council by Marjorie who became a member in January 2000. Although it did take sometime to do this it was eventually agreed by the Town Council and passed over to the Chairman. It has taken until November 2006 to get it to the planning stage and secure funding for preliminary works. Although there was a public consultation in 2002 and more recently 2004 Stockton Borough Council have done nothing to arrange for the toilets to be relocated. Marjorie also presented a proposal drawn up by architects to site new self clean toilets behind anexisting bus shelter. It would appear that we have reached November 2006 without SBC accepting its responsibility on this project.
