Marjorie Simpson
Working Hard for Yarm
Willey Flatts Regeneration Group
Since May 2005 Marjorie Simpson has continued to work with the WFFRG raising £170,000 from various grant funding bodies. Stockton Council Officers have been very supportive giving the group confidence to continue on even though sometimes members of the group became quite impatient for it all to fall into place. We now have a completed scheme of which we are all very proud. Many thanks to Jennifer, Nigel, Pat, Mavis, Rosemary, Tui, Bev and Ann who has now moved out of the area but was still interested enough to return and take part in our August opening event. On behalf of the group thanks must go to Yarm Town Council who have funded a monthly litter pick and paid for extra grass cutting to take place over the summer months.
The group is now beginning a new project to raise funding for streamline and up to date Play Equipment for all ages. The Town Council has provided £12,000 for fencing to surround the play area that is a Health and Safety requirement.

Willey Flatts Field - Play Equipment Update
Friends of the field are now awaiting the outcome of a bid for £100,000
so that we can begin to purchase the play equiipment that was the chosen priority of Layfield and Yarm Primary children.
It was unfortunate that the existing swings were deemed to be dangerous by Stockton Borough Council after receiving a ROSPA report. The Town Council had no other option but to have the swings removed. We know the children have missed them as they sent a very sad message to Marjorie saying how much they missed playing on the swings. They promised to be very good and hoped that she would get them quickly.
Marjorie regrets the time it has taken to get all the necessary information together so that the bid could be posted. At this point everything is slow but once we get a successful bid we are off and we will not, hopefully, be too long in seeing a wonderful play area.

Willey Flatts Residents Group
Marjorie attends a meeting at Challoner House each month to try to help residents with problems on Anti Social Behaviour, Traffic, Litter etc
We have experienced much success and have been rewarded at the achievement of residents having a peaceful summer. Although there have been some incidents they are fewer than were experienced previously. The new owners of the shop have worked hard to eliminate the provision of alcohol to youths who allow youngsters as young as ten access to spirits. We keep our fingers cross that the days of children laid on the pavement drunk have gone.
Some of us are concerned that vulnerable girls are allowed to stay out late at night. This has been reported to the police but it still continues.
