Yarm Independent Association

Stockton Borough Council

The council comprises of 56 members - 12 Conservative, 7 Liberal, 10 Indep and 27 Labour.    Over the last two years there has been no overall control by Labour.    As the largest minority group the Conservatives negotiated a deal with Labour.   Labout could continue to run the Cabinet making all policy decisions for the council and in exchange they and other groups would be able to take Chairmanships and Vice Chairmanships of committees.  From what is understood the Conservatives and Liberals were like children in a sweet shop selecting committees and outside bodies that they wished to serve upon.  They could have made a difference if they had taken the Cabinet away from Labour but they chose to help Labour stay in power.

We hear Conservative grass roots members complaining bitterly about the calibre of the selected candidates for the election in May 2007.   Weak candidates will enable the leaders to do as they please, after all they do not want any opposition to their plans – whatever they may be.   Many members have resigned from Stockton Conservatives and many will never vote again for a candidate they have selected.

Yarm Independent Association

Yarm Independent Association has been created by Marjorie Simpson so that previous Conservative voters will all have personable candidates to vote for.  Yarm Independent Association candidates will at all times represent Yarm with honesty and integrity.  They will vote in council with their conscience and no whip will be placed upon them to do otherwise.   All electors are promised a FAIR DEAL.

MEMBERSHIP OF YARM INDEPENDENT ASSOCIATION

We have been approached by a number of people interested in becoming members of YIA. Their reasons seem to be mainly that we offer a FAIR DEAL to all and that our leaflets are interesting and informative.  The membership funds would be used in the production of leaflets and  promotion of our work.  Please contact us for further details Tele 790691

John, Chris and Marjorie thank all electors who voted for us at the May 2007 election.  We have proved that we are snapping at their heels.  We will overtake them eventually.
A big thank you to all our volunteer deliverers during the May elections. Never fear we will get there.  If  anyone is able to spare the time to help deliver leaflets we will be very happy to hear from you.
